Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and PMNCH collaborate to highlight the needs of 1.8 billion young individuals worldwide
New Delhi, June 20, 2023 – Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, is set to inaugurate a significant G20 co-branded event titled ‘Health of Youth-Wealth of Nation’ today. Organized in collaboration with the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn, Child Health (PMNCH), Geneva, the event aims to shed light on the health and well-being needs of the 1.8 billion adolescents and youth across the globe.
With the world’s largest youth population, India recognizes the vital role that investing in the health and well-being of young individuals plays in achieving economic growth and development targets. The event, aligned with the Prime Minister’s vision, focuses on harnessing India’s youth potential for prosperity.
Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, Minister for Education, Skill Development, and Entrepreneurship, along with Shri Anurag Thakur, Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Sports and Youth Affairs, will also be present at the event. Additionally, Dr. Bharti Pravin Pawar and Prof S. P. Singh Baghel, Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare, will share their insights on addressing youth challenges and the government’s efforts to enhance their health and well-being.
Dr Mandaviya emphasis investing in youth for prosperity
The G20 co-branded event aims to empower youth as change-makers in society and facilitate dialogue among policymakers, government officials, experts, partner agencies, and youth icons from G20 nations. Approximately one-third of the event’s delegates will be young participants from India and other G20 countries, ensuring their voices and concerns are heard in future policy formulations.
The event will feature technical sessions on adolescent health and well-being, multi-sectoral partnerships for youth engagement, and a town-hall session to encourage youth participation in policy-making. A Marketplace will showcase knowledge, best practices, and innovative policies and programs that have advanced the health and well-being of adolescents and youth in G20 countries.
Influential figures, including G20 Sherpa Shri Amitabh Kant, Union Health Secretary Shri Rajesh Bhushan, PMNCH Board Chairperson Helen Clark, and Dr. Julitta Anabanjo, a Director from UNFPA Headquarters, will lead discussions on key topics.
