Trans fatty acids
Trans-fatty acids (TFAs), found in fast-food items such as red meat and salty and fried snacks can affect sperm morphology and metabolic pathways adversely.
Caffeine Intake
Extreme caffeine consumption damages male reproductive functioning, possibly impacting spermatozoa DNA.
Smoking and Alcohol
Marijuana and cigarette smoking can lead to male and female infertility. Regular alcohol consumption causes low semen volume and sperm morphology.
Phytoestrogens
Estrogen-like complexes found in certain plant-based foods known as Phytoestrogens, are linked to contradictory opinions about their effect on male procreative health. Soybeans, tempeh, tofu, and flax seeds have phytoestrogens and experts recommend eating these food items in control.
Some modifications in lifestyle, especially in dietary patterns are crucial in optimizing overall male fertility. Having a diet that is high in green veggies, seafood, fruits, whole grain, fiber, nuts, fish, and seeds is quite beneficial in improving male fertility and semen quality.
Fertility specialist Dr. Amitha N says apart from dietary behaviors, other risk factors as well can affect male infertility such as Obesity, low sperm count, shape and movement of sperms, late marriages, workplace stress, extended working hours, excessive use of gadgets, lack of rest, and air water and soil pollution.
