New Delhi: The number of positive cases of coronavirus may cross one million mark and 25,000 death cases on Thursday as widespread violations of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) is being reported after the government announced “Unlock” or opening of the economy.
But there is good indication or a ray of hope in these trying times as the recovery rate is improving and currently, it stood at 63.24 per cent. A record 20,572 patients recuperated from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours.
As per the Union Health Ministry data, COVID-19 cases in India crossed the 30,000 mark in a single day for the first time pushing its tally to 9,68,876 on Thursday, while the death toll climbed to 24,915 with 606 people succumbing to the disease.
The country recorded a total of 32,695 cases of coronavirus infections in a day, the updated data at 8 am showed.
The number of recoveries stands at 6,12,814, while there are 3,31,146 active cases of coronavirus infection presently in the country.
“Thus, around 63.25 per cent of patients have recovered so far,” an official said.
Of the 606 deaths reported in the last 24 hours, 233 are from Maharashtra, 86 from Karnataka, 68 from Tamil Nadu, 44 from Andhra Pradesh, 41 from Delhi, 29 from Uttar Pradesh, 20 from West Bengal, 11 each from Jammu and Kashmir and Telangana, 10 from Gujarat and nine from Madhya Pradesh.
Maharashtra continues to be the worst-affected state and has reported a total of 2,75,640 Covid-19 cases and close to 11,000 fatalities.
Amid the rise in cases, Bihar has imposed a complete lockdown from Thursday till July 31.
Except essential services, everything else will be closed in the state during this period.
Religious places and offices too will remain closed.
Aggressive testing, timely diagnosis and effective management of patients either through supervised home isolation or active medical attention in hospitals have led to a surge in recovered cases which exceed active Covid-19 cases, the ministry said.
Medical infrastructure in India to treat Covid-19 patients includes 1,378 dedicated hospitals, 3,077 dedicated health centres, and 1,0351 care centres equipped with 21,738 ventilators, 46,487 ICU beds, and 1,65,361 oxygen beds, the health ministry said.
