As Covid’s 19 cases continue to surge in Maharashtra, all political and social meetings in the state on Monday were barred by Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray.
This decision by the Maharashtra Chief Minister comes after Uddhav Thackeray had said that there were 7,000 new Covid cases registered in Maharashtra on Sunday alone. A notable increase in average daily deaths has occurred in six districts – Ratnagiri, Beed, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Satara and Amravati.
“The pandemic is raising its head in the state, but whether it is another wave or not, it will be known in eight to fifteen days. Political agitations will not be allowed for the next few days as they attract a crowd,” Thackeray said on Monday in a televised address.
Only choice to break the virus cycle
The decision comes at a time when the number of COVID-19 cases in Maharashtra is again experiencing an increase. A noticeable increase in average daily deaths has been seen in six districts – Ratnagiri, Beed, Sindhudurg, Raigad, Satara and Amravati.
The Chief Minister of Maharashtra added that the COVID-19 lockdown might not be the solution, but it is the only choice to break the virus cycle.
A week-long lockdown has already been declared in Amravati, one of Maharashtra’s worst-affected districts, which will take effect on Monday. In view of increasing coronavirus cases, the District Administration in Pune has also shut down schools and coaching centres until February 28.
Uddhav Thackeray said that COVID-appropriate conduct is a must and it will punish those who break the rules.
According to him, the only shield in the fight against the coronavirus epidemic is a face mask. To avoid a lockdown, wear a mask, retain discipline and observe the social distance, “Wear a mask, maintain discipline and observe social distancing to avoid a lockdown,”
He asked people to follow home practice work and reschedule their working hours so that in public places there is no crowding.
On Sunday, the Centre guided states to improve surveillance and run more COVID-19 RT-PCR tests. India, in particular, has witnessed growing cases of COVID-19 over the past few days and on Sunday the total active caseload increased to 1,45,634.
On Saturday, Maharashtra, which is also India’s worst COVID-19-hit district, recorded 6,281 new confirmed cases. The state currently has 48,439 registered COVID-19 patients. It has also seen a total of 19,92,530 retrievals.
