A recent study conducted by the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh among Punjab police personnel found that a single dose of COVID-19 vaccines has shown 92% efficacy in protecting against death, whereas with two doses it increased to 98%.
NITI Aayog member-health Dr. V K Paul noted, “This shows that the chance of serious disease or deaths is almost eliminated by vaccination. There should be no doubt that vaccines used in the country are safe and effective.”
Meanwhile, the government is making extra efforts to increase the vaccination drive among people in the country and is trying to reach the remotest areas to ensure maximum coverage.
The government stated that the underlying the efficacy of vaccines delivered in India and among those without vaccination, around three per 1,000 people died due to Covid-19, whereas the incidence of death was 0.25 per 1,000 among those who received just one dose and 0.05 per 1,000 in those who got both doses.
However, the government emphasised on the need to maintain Covid-appropriate behaviour.
India’s cumulative vaccination coverage crossed the landmark of 34 crore yesterday. A total of 34,46,11,291 vaccine doses have been administered through 45,60,088 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am today. 43,99,298 vaccine doses were administered in the last 24 hours.

The new phase of universalization of COVID19 vaccination commenced from 21st June, 2021. The Union Government is committed to accelerating the pace and expanding the scope of COVID19 vaccination throughout the country.
India has reported 44,111 new cases in the last 24 hours.
Less than 50,000 Daily New Cases have been reported since six continuous days. This is a result of sustained and collaborative efforts by the Centre and the States/UTs.
