Polycystic Ovarian Disease (PCOD), commonly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), is a prevalent condition affecting around 27% of women aged 12- 45 years. PCOD is a hormonal imbalance that affects women and causes the ovaries to create more male hormones (androgens), which stops them from generating hormones and developing eggs normally. This hormonal imbalance causes the body to miss the menstrual cycle and leads to infertility in women.
Other signs and symptoms of PCOD include:
- Irregular periods – The uterine lining is not shed every month due to a lack of ovulation. PCOD causes some women to get their periods every 10-20 days or once or twice every six months.
- Heavy bleeding – The uterine lining builds up for a more extended period; women with PCOD frequently bleed more heavily than usual during their periods.
- Hair growth – Approximately 70% of women with this syndrome have hair growth on their faces and bodies, including their backs, bellies, and chests. Hair on the scalp thins and falls off, resulting in baldness.
- Darkening of the skin – Dark patches of skin can appear in bodily creases such as the neck, groyne, and beneath the breasts.
- Headaches – Hormonal changes might cause headaches in some women.
- Acne – Male hormones can cause acne on the face, chest, and upper back by making the skin oilier than usual.
- Weight gain – PCOD affects up to 80% of women, with overweight or obese. Obesity has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease, diabetes, stroke, high blood pressure, and both good and bad cholesterol. Obese or PCOD-afflicted women may have difficulty sleeping.
- Depression or anxiety- Easily being worried or sad might be a sign of PCOD. In addition, mood fluctuations are prevalent in this condition. Cure of PCOD in Ayurveda Ayurveda is one of the world’s oldest holistic healing systems, based on the idea that good health comes from achieving a balance between your body, mind, and spirit.
