Buttermilk, also known as takra in Ayurveda, is a digestive elixir that helps to balance Kapha and Vata. It is beneficial in the curing inflammation, digestive diseases, gastrointestinal disorders, lack of appetite, spleen disorders, and anaemia, according to Ayurveda. Buttermilk is light in nature and helps to keep the body light. It has a kashaya (astringent) and amlarasa (sour) flavour and is ideally suggested to be taken at the end of the meals.
Buttermilk, despite its name, is a milky liquid leftover from the butter-making process and does not contain butter. In contrast, it is very helpful for weight loss, said Puneet Aggarwal, Director & CEO, Nirogam.
Buttermilk, also known as chass and Takra in Ayurveda, is a digestive tonic that aids in the balancing of Kapha and Vata doshas. It improves digestion and treats all stomach ailments, and brings satisfaction. According to Ayurveda, buttermilk act as a nector and is used to treat persistent colds, dyspnea, cough, cold season, indigestion, and loss of taste, loss of appetite. It also helps in curing obesity, abdominal problems, piles, fistula, diarrhoea and other conditions as well. Furthermore, it is highly advised to consume Buttermilk during the day and avoid it during the evening or nighttime, said Vaidya Shakuntala Devi.
