In a very delicate surgery, doctors at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital successfully removed a complicated tumour located between a young woman’s bladder and uterus using advanced robotic technology. The patient, Mrs. Sunita, had recently married and was eager to start a family, which made the surgery even more important.
Mrs. Sunita initially visited Sir Ganga Ram Hospital with minor urinary problems and decided to get an ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. To her surprise, the scan showed a large 6x5x4 cm tumor between her bladder and uterus. Worried about what this meant for her ability to have children, Mrs. Sunita underwent more tests, including a CT scan and MRI.
The urology and robotic surgery team at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital decided that due to the tumour’s difficult location, its exact nature couldn’t be confirmed through imaging or biopsy. Surgery was the best option, but it had to be done carefully to avoid affecting her uterus, bladder, or left ureter, which are crucial for her health and future pregnancies.
Dr. Vipin Tyagi, the lead surgeon, explained, “This surgery was very challenging. We had to remove the tumor without harming the uterus, bladder, or ureter, and we needed to avoid making a large incision that could complicate her plans to have children.”
To manage this complex surgery, Dr. Vipin Tyagi, Senior Consultant in the Department of Urology and Robotic Surgery, along with Dr. Ankit Tyagi, Associate Consultant in the Department of Urology, chose to use robotic-assisted surgery. The advanced robotic system provided precise control and flexibility during the operation. Through small incisions, the surgeons used robotic arms and instruments to carefully remove the entire tumor from its difficult location.
“The robotic technology was crucial for reaching this tricky area between the organs and safely removing the tumor without causing any additional damage,” Dr. Tyagi mentioned. “The 3D imaging and versatile instruments allowed us to protect the uterus and other important structures effectively.”
After the successful surgery, Mrs. Sunita recovered well and was discharged from the hospital just two days later. She was relieved that the tumor was removed and that her fertility was preserved. The team at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is optimistic that Mrs. Sunita will now be able to pursue her dream of starting a family.
“In the Department of Urology at Ganga Ram Hospital, we offer the latest and most advanced technology to ensure better treatment for our patients,” said Dr. Sudhir Chadha, Chairman of the Department of Urology at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital.
