Coronavirus Update: The number of Covid-19 cases is on the rise across the country. Amid this, the national capital reported seven Covid-related fatalities on Thursday. According to the data of the health department, this is for the second consecutive day that seven deaths due to coronavirus have been reported. Also, 865 fresh coronavirus cases have been reported in Delhi with a positivity rate of 16.90 per cent.
According to data provided by the health department of the Delhi government, the fresh cases and fatalities have taken the national capital’s caseload to 20,37,061. Also, the number of deaths has increased to 26,620.
The health department said in its bulletin that COVID-19 was the primary cause of death in three out of seven deaths.

5,117 tests were conducted in the national capital
A total of 5,117 tests were conducted in the city, including 3,599 RT-PCR/CBNAAT/True Nat tests, conducted the previous day.
While the number of active cases of coronavirus in Delhi stands at 4,279, most of the patients are in home isolation. According to the data provided, 3,143 patients are in home isolation.
There are 7,974 beds dedicated to Covid-19 patients in the national capital and only 296 of them are occupied at present, the data showed. Earlier on Wednesday, the national capital registered 1,040 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 21.16 per cent.
On Tuesday, Delhi witnessed 1,095 cases with a positivity rate of 22.74 per cent and six deaths.
It is to be noted that the number of COVID-19 cases in Delhi dropped to zero on January 16. This was for the first time since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic that no case of Covid-19 was reported. However, the city has witnessed a spurt in fresh cases over the past month.
Earlier this month, mock drills were conducted in the hospitals of the national capital to ascertain their preparedness to deal with any eventuality.
Meanwhile, medical experts are of the view that Omicron sub-variant XBB.1.16 could be driving the surge in cases this time. But they have also asked people not to panic this time and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour and get their booster shots.
