– Mr. Vikas Chawla, Founder and Director, Vedas Cure

Who doesn’t like healthy, naturally glowing skin? But, due to various factors like stress, exposure to sun, dust and pollution, the skin starts losing its natural glow. With ageing, fine lines and wrinkles start developing. There are plenty of products available in the market claiming to restore skin health and make it glowy and healthy again; however, most of them are composed of harmful chemicals that can harm the skin. Below are some tips and remedies for getting healthy, glowing skin this summer using all-natural ingredients!

Home Remedies

Lemon Peel – Lemon is citrusy in nature, and a rich source of Vitamin C. Since lemon is rich in vitamin C, rubbing lemon peel is a natural remedy for regenerating dead cells. Lemon is an excellent antioxidant and helps in reducing skin damage and prevents premature ageing. It helps in getting rid of dark spots. Light massage for 2-3 minutes is recommended as more extended massage could cause irritation and burning of the skin.

Castor Oil – Massaging castor oil on the skin is highly recommended. Castor oil has antibacterial properties, which helps in reducing acne caused by bacteria clogged pores. It gives a nice bounce to the skin and prevents puffiness. Castor oil, due to its anti-inflammatory properties, eases sunburns and skin peeling. It keeps the skin moisturised, young-looking and glowing from within.

DIY Face masks – A quick and easy DIY face mask tried at least once by all of us is a paste of besan, turmeric and milk. One spoon of besan combined with 3-4 spoons of milk and a pinch of turmeric is a quick, easy and effective face mask that can be applied for 5-10 minutes before taking a shower. It is considered the holy grail for achieving glowing skin. Instead of milk, malai can also be used in case of dry skin.

Organic Honey – Apply one spoon of organic honey on the skin for achieving soft, bouncy and glowing skin. Honey possesses exfoliating properties due to the enzymes present in it. It helps in removing dead cells on the skin and makes it clean and glowy.

Other remedies – Quite famous for its benefits for the skin, pure Aloe vera can also be used to soothe sunburns and reduce skin ageing. Drinking pulpy aloe vera juice also helps deal with many skin related problems like eczema, psoriasis, etc.

Manganese for Collagen

Manganese is rich in collagen — a protein highly beneficial to bones, skin, muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Cucumber contains manganese and can be used on the skin for a natural collagen boost in the skin. Cucumber is also considered a natural coolant and can be used on the skin in summer to soothe it. It also helps in calming the mind and reduces stress.

Face Oils

Jojoba Oil has moisturising properties and acts as an antioxidant for the skin. Besides regulating sebum production and making skin smooth and moisturised, it avoids oily-looking skin and prevents acne caused by clogged pores. The antioxidants present in Jojoba Oil promote the production of collagen. As one grows older, the natural production of collagen decreases which results in dull and dry-looking skin. With its anti-inflammatory properties, Jojoba oil is highly effective for treating skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, and dry skin. It helps delay the signs of ageing, reduces fine lines and wrinkles, fights cold sores, soothes sunburns, and deeply hydrates the skin.

Kumkumadi Oil is recommended for glowing, spotless and radiant skin. It is excellent for treating pigmentation, discoloration, and dark spots on the skin. It contains Licorice root extracts, an ayurvedic skin lightening ingredient that helps treat pigmentation and discoloration caused by exposure to the sun. It also helps in reducing the dark marks caused by scars and wounds. Along with brightening the skin tone, Kumkumadi oil also enhances the natural glow, removes fine lines, reduces signs of ageing while preventing wrinkles and acne scars.

Herbs in Ayurveda for Skin

As much as applying products to the skin are needed, treating the problem from within is equally important. Ayurveda has several herbs that are beneficial for treating skin-related problems not just from the surface but from the inside; these herbs include Saffron, Neem, Bakayan chhal, Khair Chhal, Makoy Beej, Chirata, Manjishtha etc.

To get healthy and glowing skin, it is equally important to keep a check on your diet and the food items you consume throughout the day. Consuming beetroot, apple cider vinegar, and tomato is also recommended for getting naturally glowing skin.
