62-Year-Old Woman Weighing 172 Kg With Morbidities Like Cancer, Asthma Diabetes, Defeats COVID-19

A 62-year-old woman weighing around 172 kg in has emerged victorious in her battle against coronavirus. This is when she was suffering from diseases like cancer, asthma, and diabetes. It is nothing less than a miracle for doctors treating her.

This has infused hope in others dealing with COVID-19. Senior citizen Mehnaz Lokhandwala is a resident of Mumbai, Maharashtra. Lokhandwala said that she emerged victorious in the fight against COVID-19 because of timely medical care treatment by doctors and the blessing of people.

“Be mentally strong and keep in mind that coronavirus cannot defeat you,” the woman said after being discharged from the hospital.

The woman was tested positive for COVID-19 when she was suffering from several chronic diseases and there was very little hope of surviving her. She was admitted to Bombay Hospital where doctors feel that it’s simply a miracle.

Dr. Gautam Bhansali, the Consulting physician of Bombay Hospital, said that her situation worsened at one point in time and she was placed on the Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BIPap) machine.

“She was admitted to Bombay Hospital at 2 o’clock at night. Her oxygen level was around 82-84. She was not in good condition. She was also suffering from cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and asthma. She is heavily obese and therefore it was difficult to put her on a ventilator. We kept oxygen flow high and started treatment following COVID-19 protocol. This went for four days but her condition worsened and then we placed her on the BiPap machine.

Lokhandwala was discharged from the hospital after around one month. According to her, had she been admitted on time, she would have recovered earlier. “Don’t do this mistake. I didn’t go to the hospital for two days. Consult your doctor immediately and do as he suggests. Please listen to your doctor and if he says that it better to get admitted, just do it,” Lokhandwala said.

Dr Bhansali said that the woman survived because the treatment started just on time. According to doctors of the hospital, she was so far the most challenging COVID-19 patient.

Even after being tested negative in two consecutive COVID-19 reports, she was kept on BiPap.
