The Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday that his Government had finalized 89 sites to carry out the Covid-19 vaccination campaign from January 16 in the national capital.
Satyendar Jain, Minister of Health for Delhi, said 36 government hospitals and 53 private hospitals would each have a vaccination site.
“The first batch of covid-19 vaccines will arrive by Tuesday or Wednesday. In the first phase, health care workers will be vaccinated. Thereafter, frontline workers and those aged above 50 will be given the doses of the vaccine,” the Delhi health minister said.
In each hospital, there will be one Covid-19 vaccination centre. At each center, the minister added, about 10 healthcare workers will be deployed.
“We are fully prepared to roll out the vaccination programme. We will administer the vaccine as soon as the doses arrive,” the minister said.
On Saturday, the much-awaited covid-19 vaccination drive will begin on January 16, the federal government said.
In order of priority, the vaccines will be given to an estimated 3 crores of healthcare and frontline workers, followed by those over 50 years of age and the population groups below 50 with co-morbidities of around 27 crores, the government said.
The decision followed a detailed review meeting convened by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which it was decided that the mass vaccination could start from 16 January 2021 in view of the forthcoming festivals including Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, Magh Bihu, etc.

The Delhi government has already announced that the coronavirus vaccine will be provided free of charge to individuals in the national capital whenever it is available.

Jain said the Kejriwal government has asked the Centre to provide all people in the country with vaccines free of charge.
