Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras Revolutionizing Generic Medicine Access
The Indian government’s efforts to enhance access to affordable and quality healthcare have seen a significant boost with the establishment of 9,512 Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Kendras (PMBJKs) across the country. These centers, under the Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Janaushadhi Pariyojana (PMBJP), aim to provide the common man with generic medicines at affordable prices. With a target to open 10,000 PMBJKs by March 2024, the initiative is making strides in improving healthcare accessibility for all.

To promote the PMBJP scheme, the Department of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmaceuticals & Medical Devices Bureau of India (PMBI) collaborates with state/UT governments and district administrations to create awareness and facilitate the opening of Janaushadhi Kendras in various health facilities. Through extensive advertising campaigns across print media, radio, TV, cinema, and outdoor mediums, the public is continually educated about the benefits of Jan Aushadhi generic medicines. Celebrations like Jan Aushadhi Diwas and educational workshops further spread awareness about the scheme.

Special courts have been established for speedy trials, and the number of sanctioned posts in Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) has been increased. Stringent inspection and evidence submission requirements before granting manufacturing licenses further ensure the quality of drugs in the market.
