BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Tests Positive For Covid-19, Admitted To Hospital

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president Sourav Ganguly has tested positive for Coronavirus. Amid the ongoing threat of an approaching third wave in the country, this news came up.

According to the BCCI sources, Ganguly has been admitted to a hospital after his RT-PCR test report turned out to be positive. However, he said he is in a stable state at the moment.

In the middle of all this a piece of relaxing news is that Ganguly is double vaccinated, and hence, is not likely to be severely affected by the virus. He has been travelling widely, taking part in all professional activities, as being the president of the BCCI.

Late on Monday night the 49-year-old was taken to a hospital after his RT-PCR report turned out to be positive. However, the hospitalisation is only a precautionary measure.

“He was taken to Woodlands Nursing Home last night. He has been given medication and is currently stable,” a BCCI source tracking Ganguly’s health told PTI.

This year Ganguly has had a few health-related issues and was admitted to the hospital twice in 2021, including an incident related to a heart issue for which he underwent an emergency angioplasty.

His elder brother Snehasish Ganguly had also tested positive for COVID early this year, but back then, Ganguly had returned a negative RT-PCR test.

Over the past week or so, the spike in the number of corona positive infections in various parts of India has been quite dramatic. The fresh increase in the number of new cases has seen quite a few cities across the country issue restrictions. Delhi and Mumbai are leading the charts when it comes to fresh Covid cases, especially that of the new variant Omicron.

As far as the Covid cases in India are concerned, the country has reported 6,358 new cases and 6,450 recoveries over the last 24 hours. The tally of Omicron cases continues to grow, with the latest figures suggesting 653 confirmed cases. The active caseload in India currently stands at 75,456. The recovery rate, at present, is at 98.40%.
