The objective of this staggered Metro services plan on Monday is aimed at facilitating all stakeholders with effectiveness and to promote ‘social distancing’ which is very much required to contain spread of Corona virus.

In first couple of Hours ( 6 AM to 8 AM), DMRC’s priority is to ensure that the people involved in providing the essential services, as notified by the Government, reach their destinations with ease while maintaining norms of ‘social distancing’ in Metro premises.

In next two hours (8AM to 10 AM), the objective is to facilitate people for whom it is essential and unavoidable to go their destinations. DMRC again appeals and advises general public not to panic and stay at home and use the Metro only when it is really essential and unavoidable.

In the prevalent scenario where authorities have shut malls, restaurants, major markets etc. to prevent spread of the virus, it is responsibility of our passengers also to co-operate with DMRC and help fight Coronavirus collectively.

The Delhi Metro services will be closed on Sunday in view of the ‘Janata curfew’, officials said. The total number of coronavirus cases in the national capital on Thursday rose to 14, according to the Delhi Health Department. In view of the ‘Janata curfew’ to be observed on March 22, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation has decided to keep its services closed, the DMRC said in a statement on Friday. “The move is aimed at encouraging public to stay indoors and maintain social distancing, which is essential in the fight against COVID-19,” it said.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee alleged on Saturday that the railways was not ensuring proper screening of passengers entering the state through long-distance trains. She claimed that migrant workers from the state, particularly those in Maharashtra, were being packed off in trains and sent back without medical checkups. “I have been saying this for the last one month. Now India is entering the third stage (of the coronavirus outbreak), which is very dangerous. The next two weeks are extremely important. I have asked the chief secretary to tell the railway authorities to immediately stop all long-distance trains,” the chief minister told Bengali television news channel “ABP Ananda”. “I have also been urging the Centre to stop all international flights coming to the country for a long time,” she said.

The Norwegian Olympic Committee wants the Tokyo Games only to take place once the coronavirus outbreak “is under firm control” worldwide. The NIF laid out its position in a letter sent to IOC President Thomas Bach on Friday, entitled “Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 and COVID-19” and signed by its president and secretary general. The body said it urged the IOC to provide an “insight on the central milestones” in the process leading to the final decision on whether the games will be held. “Our clear recommendation,” the letter read, “is that the Olympic Games in Tokyo shall not take place before the COVID-19 situation is under firm control on a global scale.”

Iran said Saturday that 123 more people had died from coronavirus, raising the official death toll to 1,556 in the Islamic republic, one of the world’s worst affected countries.
