Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj announced on Wednesday that the number of mosquito-breeding sites in the national capital has stabilised. Also, authorities have been instructed to launch a comprehensive city-wide dengue awareness campaign.
Addressing the dengue situation in Delhi during a press conference, Bharadwaj stated, “Last week, we convened a meeting with officials from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi’s (MCD) health department. In that meeting, MCD officials shared data indicating that the number of mosquito-breeding sites has reached a plateau.”
He further added, “I have directed the health department and the chief secretary to initiate an extensive dengue awareness campaign as we approach the peak season. Such a campaign was not conducted previously.”
According to MCD, Delhi recorded 348 dengue cases by August 5
According to an MCD report released on August 7, the national capital had recorded 348 dengue cases by August 5. However, the MCD has not provided reports on dengue and other vector-borne diseases for several weeks, despite a senior civic official’s assertion that they are actively working to contain their spread, and the situation remains under control.
Typically, the MCD releases weekly reports on vector-borne disease cases every Monday.
In the meantime, the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Department has issued a directive instructing students to wear full-sleeved shirts and trousers due to the increasing dengue cases. Schools are also tasked with monitoring students with fevers and promptly informing the nearest health centre if multiple students exhibit fever symptoms.

The directive from the director of basic education to all Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSAs) across the state emphasizes the importance of schools ensuring that their campuses and surrounding areas are free from stagnant water or other sources of mosquito breeding.
Meanwhile, the state capital of Uttar Pradesh reported 15 new dengue cases in the past 24 hours. According to the health department, Indira Nagar and Tudiyaganj each reported three new dengue cases, while Chinhat reported two cases, and Aliganj, NK Road, and Sarojininagar reported one or two cases each.
