Amid the shortage of oxygen in Delhi, the centre yesterday hiked Delhi’s oxygen quota, but still there are several hospitals in the city which are crying for immediate oxygen supply. This includes hospitals like the Mata Chanan Devi Hospital where over 200 Covid-19 patients are in dreadful need of Oxygen. This hospital has run out of its stock today morning.
The Mata Chanan Devi Hospital in Janakpuri, on Thursday morning, reported a severe oxygen crisis and informed that they have exhausted their stocks in the morning. It is reported that there are more than 200 patients who are admitted to the hospital were in need of oxygen.
Since Wednesday night, the hospital had been constantly following up with the suppliers and authorities but failed to obtain any oxygen till Thursday morning. The crisis was brought to an end later in the morning.
The center hiked Delhi’s oxygen quota on Wednesday, from 378 metric tonnes to 480 metric tonnes, which will be supplied by other states. The Delhi government has said that the oxygen supply from other states may take days to reach the city.
It is reported that smaller hospitals complain of neglect more. Hence, many small 50-bed hospitals in Delhi are still struggling to find ample oxygen supply for Covid-19 patients.
In the same way according to reports, the Pushpanjali Medical Center at Anand Vihar almost ran out of the oxygen supply on Wednesday night and struggled to maintain the supply by borrowing cylinders from nearby centers and agencies.
The hospital MD and former president of Indian Medical Association (IMA) Dr. Vinay Agarwal said that during a meeting with the Delhi government, he had raised the issue of lack of oxygen supply at small hospitals in Delhi, but nobody responded when the crisis hit.
He informed that he has 37 covid patients at the hospital while many non-covid patients are also admitted and they are struggling to keep the oxygen supply going.
The Centre for the refilling of oxygen cylinders has been set in Bawana, which is very far from the hospital in East Delhi.
