Delhi has recently witnessed a sharp increase in dengue cases this year, reporting around 5,000 cases this week. As per the MCD data, the figure shows over-twofold increase in dengue cases this year as compared to the year 2022. The municipal corporation of Delhi has not been making dengue reports public since August. Health experts say that the highest number of dengue cases has been reported in the month of September, with nearly 2141 cases. Around 1487 dengue cases have been recorded in October. As per the data, one fatality has also occurred due to dengue infection. Due to the worrying spike in dengue cases, health authorities are taking preventive measures to ensure suitable sanitation, mitigation of mosquito breeding, and sufficient facilities at healthcare facilities and hospitals.

Delhi recorded a sum of 525 dengue cases last week. Health experts said that patient details and the source of infection of around 76 dengue cases could not be traced. Around 57 dengue cases have been reported in the South district this week. A sum of 146 cases reported in the capital were dengue infections obtained from other states. A major spike has also been seen in malaria cases, with more than 300 incidents being recorded so far. This week the minimum temperature in Delhi was reported as 16.1 degrees Celsius, however, despite dipping temperature, the threat of a spike in dengue cases is still lurking in the capital.

MCD officials suspect that heavy rainfall this year might be the cause of the rise in dengue cases in Delhi. This year, Delhi has witnessed the highest rainfall in the last 60 years. A senior MD official says that people need to take preventive measures to reduce mosquito breeding around their surroundings. As per the report, most mosquito breeding was seen in containers and desert coolers and the second-highest mosquito breeding was reported at construction sites.
