A woman dentist, who received the Covid-19 vaccine on January 23, reportedly went into septic shock. Dr K Dhana Lakshmi, the dentist, after being treated at the government general hospital and private hospital in Ongole for two days, was shifted to Apollo Hospital in Chennai for better treatment.
She was fine for a day after receiving the vaccine. She received treatment for fever at the government general hospital in Ongole on Sunday. However after a day, her symptoms worsened and she was admitted.
After a significant drop in vitals, she was shifted to private hospital with better infrastructure but when there was no improvement, the medical team at the government general hospital suggested shifting her to a better facility.
The DMHO announced that the doctor, who is said to be in septic shock, was already having some infections prior to the vaccination, and the vaccine may not be the sole reason for the illness.
Dr. K Dhanalakshmi was working as a doctor in the dental department of the Government General Hospital in Ongole. As per the orders of the government, she was in the COVID duties in the hospital. On Sunday, January 24, Dr. Dhanalakshmi took the vaccine.
On Tuesday night, the collector Dr. Pola Bhaskara announced that Dr. Shanalakshmi complained of fever on Monday and took treatment in the OP and went home. But on Tuesday morning, she returned to the hospital and joined as an inpatient at GGH Ongole, he said.
She was shifted to Ramesh Sanghamitra Hospital in Ongole and then to Apollo Hospital in Chennai for better treatment as she was not responding to the treatment. Samples were sent for various tests.
The District Medical and Health Officer Dr. P Ratnavali on Wednesday said that the condition of Dr. Dhanalakshmi is not yet stable. She said that the medical reports of the dental doctor shown that she has a chronic urinary infection and pus cells were found in the blood and urine examinations.
She is already taking antibiotics, but the fever due to the vaccination has increased the infection that led her to septic shock, the DMHO said and announced that the doctors’ team at Apollo Hospitals in Chennai are trying to stabilize her condition now.
