Union Minister emphasizes government’s commitment to accessible and affordable healthcare for all citizens.

In a significant step towards providing accessible and quality healthcare to every citizen of India, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, the Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, inaugurated CGHS Wellness Centres in Chandigarh and Panchkula. The ceremony was graced by prominent figures such as Smt Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh, and Shri Gian Chand Gupta, Member of Legislative Assembly from Panchkula. This expansion brings the total number of CGHS cities to 80, fulfilling a long-standing demand and ensuring that people across the country can access reliable healthcare services.

Chandigarh already boasted a CGHS Wellness Centre catering to 47,000 registered beneficiaries. The opening of the second Wellness Centre in the region brings much-needed relief to the beneficiaries as the workload will be divided, reducing waiting times and enhancing ease of living for the citizens.

Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the government’s unwavering commitment to ensuring ease of living for all citizens, especially pensioners who should not struggle to access quality healthcare. He highlighted the simplified billing and reimbursement process and expressed the government’s commitment to further streamlining and expediting these procedures. Dr. Mandaviya also mentioned the integration of CGHS technology with the National Health Authority, which will lead to the expansion of CGHS to 100 cities in India. This expansion will significantly increase people’s access to good quality healthcare across the nation.

The expansion of CGHS coverage to 80 cities highlights the government’s commitment to affordable healthcare and improved living standards.

With a focus on the government’s pro-poor approach, Dr. Mandaviya stated that providing equal access to affordable and quality healthcare has always been a priority for the Modi government, exemplified by the success of Ayushman Bharat.

The opening of these two Wellness Centres not only mitigates the hardships faced by pensioners in the Chandigarh-Panchkula-Mohali tricity area but also benefits individuals residing in nearby areas of Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. This expansion marks a substantial milestone in the journey of CGHS, expanding coverage from 25 cities in 2014 to 80 in 2023, showcasing the government’s relentless efforts to improve healthcare infrastructure and services across the country.
