Renowned cardiologist Dr Naresh Trehan and 15 others have been booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act of the IPC in connection with the allotment of land for Medanta Medicity Hospital in Gurugram, Haryana.
Some officials of the state government have also been named in the FIR which has been registered at Gurgaon Saar police station.
The case was registered on at the best of Ashwani Kumar on the complaint of Raman Sharma, a resident of Malibu Towne. According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Aman Yadav, further action will be taken by questioning all the people named in the FIR.
According to the six-page FIR, Dr Trehan did not have the required financial resources for the Rs 900 crore Medicity project. The subscribed value of Global Health Private Limited, a company owned by Dr Trehan, was just 10 per cent of the amount committed for investment. He allegedly created shell company in connivance with other accused and issued partly paid shares to his company with full rights and grant overwhelming rights to two other companies without the permission of the government.
Sharma alleged that no health department official was appointed by the government to check the financial capability of Dr Trehan.
The FIR states that the project is still incomplete even after 15 years and Dr Trehan colluded with government officials so that no one else can make a submission for it.
In June 2019, Sharma filed a complaint with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) regarding this scam. Following this, the ED had ordered the Haryana Police to investigate, but no action was taken so far. Three days ago a petition was filed in the court regarding the matter.
The petitioner sought to register a case under the Corruption and Money Laundering Act against 52 people, including CMD Dr. Naresh Trehan. While hearing the petition, the court of Ashwini Kumar ordered ED to register cases against Dr. Naresh Trehan, Sunil Sachdev, Atul Punj, Anant Jain, besides Global Health Private Limited, Global Infracom Private Limited, Punj Lloyd.
At the same time, the response has been sought from the Chief Administrator of Haryana Urban Development Authority (HSVP), the Administrator of HSVP Gurugram, Estate Officer-2, and Director of Health Department, all other officials associated with this case.
We tried to get Dr Trehan’s reaction but he is not responding to our calls and messages.
