Former Bigg Boss contestant Swami Om has passed away. He was ill for the past few days. He contracted coronavirus three months ago, and since then he wasn’t keeping well. He tested negative later but due to weakness, he couldn’t walk.
Swami Om’s friend Mukesh Jain confirmed Zee Media that he died due to paralysis. Due to this, he couldn’t move and half of his body was even paralyzed. Swami Om will be cremated today at Nigam Bodh Ghat in Delhi.
When he was inside the Bigg Boss 10 building, the self-proclaimed godman had made some headlines. For his nasty observations on the candidates, he got some hate messages too.
His fast deteriorating health condition and his eventual death after getting infected from Covid-19 has made everyone wonder about the long-term phases of recovery from COVID-19.
What Are The Long term Effects of Covid 19 Infections?
Dr Angeli Misra, Director LIFELINE LABORATORY, said, “Almost 90 per cent of the people with Covid 19 infection suffer from a mild disease which is self-limiting. Normally, these individuals will recover in about two weeks. About 10-15 per cent of patients, however, will have severe complications, and 5% are known to become critically ill after contracting the virus, eventually need ICU and ventilator support.”
Irrespective of the severity of the disease, few people develop long term consequences, and may suffer from prolonged complications of the disease.
“Symptoms like fatigue, shortness of breath, congestion of the nasal cavities, loss of sense of smell and taste, persistent headache, gastrointestinal symptoms and headaches and body aches may persist. Some patients may experience mental health issues such as confusion, anxiety and depression, Dr Angeli added.
Many individuals do not gain their original health and people who have high blood pressure, obesity and mental health issues are more likely to have persistent symptoms.
Damage to the heart may lead to Myocarditis and death. In the long term, the person may suffer from dilated cardiomyopathy and chronic heart failure. The injury to the heart muscles can be noted by estimating the levels of Troponin Patients also presented with asthmas /irregular heartbeat and evidence of heart attacks. These findings were independent of the severity of the original disease and the presence of comorbidities. As stated above the people suffering from cardiac failure post-Covid is significant and this phenomenon is seen in all protocol.
The long term effects may involve damage to some of the organs of the body such as heart, lungs, brain and kidneys.
