Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya Highlights “Heal in India & Heal by India” Vision at 76th World Health Assembly
Geneva, 24th May 2023: Union Health Minister Dr Mansukh Mandaviya delivered a keynote address on the vision of “Heal in India & Heal by India” at the 76th World Health Assembly held in Geneva. The event witnessed participation from global health leaders, highlighting the importance of cooperation and addressing health challenges through a unified approach.
Dr Mandaviya reiterated India’s commitment to the philosophy of “One Earth, One Health,” which aims to serve the global community by promoting value-based healthcare. Under the visionary leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Indian government has taken initiatives to support health workforce mobility and patient mobility.
Ayurveda and AYUSH Treatments Gain Global Demand, Says Dr Mansukh Mandaviya
The “Heal by India” initiative focuses on increasing health workforce mobility from India to different parts of the world, aligning with the Indian philosophy of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (The World is One Family). Simultaneously, the “Heal in India” initiative aims to provide integrated and holistic treatment options to the world, while enhancing patient mobility for access to affordable and quality healthcare services.
Dr Mandaviya highlighted India’s rich heritage in healthcare, particularly Ayurveda, one of the world’s oldest medical systems. The demand for AYUSH treatments, including Ayurveda, Yoga, Siddha, Unani, and Homeopathy, has been increasing globally. India has been actively promoting these traditional systems of medicine to cater to the growing demand.
Addressing the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr Mandaviya praised India’s remarkable pace in vaccination. With over 2.20 billion doses administered in India so far, the country has played a significant role in combating the pandemic. India’s “Vaccine Maitri” initiative has also contributed millions of vaccines to countries around the world, showcasing India’s commitment to global health.
India’s Efforts in COVID Vaccination and Health Ecosystem Strengthening Recognized
Dr Mandaviya emphasized India’s efforts in strengthening the healthcare ecosystem. The Ayushman Bharat Initiative, including the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY), has provided health insurance coverage for millions of people. Additionally, the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) and PM-Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission aim to bridge gaps in healthcare delivery through the use of technology and infrastructure development.
The Union Health Minister stressed the importance of a coordinated global response to health threats, as demonstrated by the COVID-19 pandemic. India has been actively involved in capacity building for healthcare workers and leveraging digital technology to address future healthcare challenges.
In his concluding remarks, Dr Mandaviya expressed gratitude to all the participants and reaffirmed India’s commitment to “Healthcare for All.” He emphasized the guiding philosophy of inclusive growth and collective efforts towards achieving a healthier world.
