A Remarkable Medical Feat by Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals
New Delhi, 18th July, 2023: Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, successfully conducted two critical liver transplant surgeries. Spearheaded by Dr. Neerav Goyal, Senior Consultant, Liver Transplant, along with a dedicated team, the hospital has not only saved lives but also reignited hope for patients in dire need of a new lease on life.
NOTTO’s Vital Role in Organ Allocation
The National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) played a pivotal role in this medical achievement. On June 21st & 23rd, 2023, NOTTO alerted all hospitals in Delhi about the availability of two cadaveric livers. The first liver from HCMCT Manipal Hospital was initially declined due to the lack of suitable recipients. However, Indraprastha Apollo Hospital quickly identified a deserving 17-year-old patient, who had been awaiting a liver for an extended period, and requested the allocation. Subsequently, another liver from Sum Ultimate Medicare Hospital in Bhubaneswar was allocated for a 51-year-old female patient, ensuring timely access to a suitable liver after a significant waiting period.
Swift Actions and Collaborative Efforts
Recognizing the urgency of the situation, Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals acted swiftly and collaborated closely with both HCMCT Manipal Hospital and Sum Ultimate Medicare Hospital to ensure the smooth retrieval and transportation of the donated livers. A green corridor, facilitated with the support of Orissa Traffic Police, expedited the liver transportation process, enabling quick and efficient access to the life-saving organs.
Dr. Neerav Goyal, Senior Consultant, expressed immense gratitude for the successful liver transplant surgeries, attributing the positive outcome to NOTTO’s crucial assistance in the organ allocation process. The collaboration and willingness of HCMCT Manipal Hospital & Sum Ultimate Medicare Hospital to prioritize patients’ well-being above all were also acknowledged. Moreover, Dr. V. Arun, Dr. Varun Kumar, Dr. Pradeep Kumar, and Dr. Vijay Shankar’s contributions were instrumental in the success of these life-saving surgeries.
