India Reports 16,838 New Coronavirus Infections, 113 Deaths In Last 24 Hrs

The Union Health Ministry informed on Friday that as many as 16,838 new COVID-19 cases and 113 deaths were reported in India in the last 24 hours.

While the cumulative recoveries have reached 1,08,39,894, with 13,819 new discharges.

However, the country’s covid-19 tally has reached 1,11,73,761 including 1,76,319 active infections while the death toll has mounted to 1,57,548.

A total of 1,80,05,503 people have been inoculated against the novel coronavirus so far, according to the health ministry.

Meanwhile, two states that continue to be the most affected states by Covid-19 in India are Maharashtra with 86,359 active cases, followed by Kerala with 44,734 active infections.

As per the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), a total of 21,99,40,742 samples have been tested for COVID-19 up to March 4, 2021, of these, 7,61,834 samples were tested yesterday.

Over 1.77 Crore Covid-19 Vaccine Doses Administered in India: Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry said on Thursday informed that the total number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in India has crossed the 1.77 crore mark.

The country’s vaccination drive rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers (HCWs) getting vaccinated and from February 2nd the frontline workers (FLWs) started getting vaccinated.

From March, the second phase of Covid-19 vaccination started for those above 60 years of age and for people aged 45 and above with specified comorbid conditions.

A total of 1,77,11,287 vaccine doses have been given, as per the provisional report till Thursday at 7 pm.

The ministry said, these include 68,38,077 healthcare workers, who have taken the first dose and 30,82,942 healthcare workers who have taken the second dose, 60,22,136 frontline workers (first dose), 54,177 FLWs (second dose), 14,95,016beneficiaries over 60 years, and 2,18,939 individuals aged 45 and above with specific comorbidities.

A total of 10,93,954vaccine doses were given till 7 pm on Thursday, the forty-eighth day of the nationwide COVID-19 vaccination drive.
