Kumbh Mela Haridwar 2021: ‘People Violating Covid-19 Guidelines Will Be Prosecuted’

People who breach the Covid-19 guidelines at the Haridwar Kumbh Mela in 2021 will be summoned, according to the Uttarakhand administration. The state government has agreed to restrict the Kumbh this year to 30 days due to the pandemic.

The officers in charge of the Kumbh Mela have confirmed that those who wish to attend the religious gathering should register in advance at a portal and have a COVID-19 negative report.

“Violating Covid-19 SOPs at 2021 Kumbh Mela Haridwar will be prosecuted. Pilgrims are required to register by uploading a medical certificate, RT-PCR report not older than 72 hrs, following which E-pass will be issued for the fair,” news agency ANI reported quoting Om Prakash, Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand.

The Kumbh Mela is a religious pilgrimage as well as one of the world’s largest mass gatherings in one location. It is celebrated four times over a 12-year period in four separate locations: Prayagraj, Haridwar, Ujjain, and Nashik. The Maha Kumbh is celebrated at four river-bank pilgrimage sites across India every 12 years.
