Technology has changed our lives in many ways and continues to offer a better solution for almost every problem. Thanks to this, we can do a lot of our important works with the use of apps. From ordering food to talking online classes to buying products, everything has moved on to apps on our mobile phones.
It is now being used to promote awareness about menstrual hygiene. Just days ahead of ‘Menstrual Hygiene Day,’ Essar Foundation, the CSR (corporate social responsibility) arm of Essar, has launched the Sahej app to offer a one-stop solution for women to menstruate with dignity.
The Android-based app has been developed in consultation with NGOs (Non-governmental Organisations) like Kavach A Movement, Rotaract Club, and Ghar Bachao Ghar Banao Andolan that are working in the menstrual hygiene space.
It offers a one-stop solution for women to menstruate with dignity. The app also encourages adolescent girls to maintain menstrual health by availing of hygienic products at subsidised prices.
It educates women about menstrual hygiene and offers relevant information about ‘What is a pad?’, ‘What is menstruation?’, etc.
“We have launched the Sahej app with a vision to revolutionise women’s health and empowerment. It will ensure that women from all sections of the society can lead a healthier life, and become more active contributors to the economy. Sahej is not just a menstrual hygiene management app. It is a movement to sensitively, yet assertively, address the subject of menstruation. With the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, many women will have limited access to menstrual hygiene products and services. We hope Sahej will help break geographical and linguistic barriers to equip women with the right information and products,” said Kaustubh Sonalkar, Essar’s Group President-HR, and CEO – Essar Foundation.
Moreover, the app has a unique interactive game-based learning system to promote menstrual hygiene awareness. It has educational videos by renowned doctors, and a period tracker also. The app is available in three languages – Hindi, Marathi, and English – and caters to the customised needs of every woman across every age group.
