According to a recent report released by the District Health department in Gurugram stated that more men are dying from COVD-19 than women. They found that the number of males who died due to COVID-19 in Gurugram is nearly double that of women. The deaths of 910 Covid patients as of July 4, has been audited by the District Health Department.
The research found that, about 621 of the 910 Covid-infected patients who died were men, with 289 being women. The patients who died in the region due to coronavirus infection fell in age range from 61 to 80 years. The ages of the 229 persons who died from coronavirus ranged from 61 to 70.
More Men Died Of Covid-19 As Compared To Women
According to the study, 153 were men, and 76 were girls. Similarly, 213 of the dead Covid patients were between the ages of 71 and 80. There were 144 males and 69 women among them.
The data of Gurugram Health Department showed no one died of COVID-19 between the ages of 0 and 20. However, 14 of the deceased were between the age group of 21 and 30. There were eight males and six women among them.
Furthermore, 75 of those who died due to the illness were between the ages of 31 and 40. There were 58 males and 17 women among them. As of July 4, 120 Covid patients between the ages of 41 and 50 years died.
Hence this data showed that men outnumbered women by 84 to 36. Simultaneously, 141 of the deceased victims ranged between the age from 51 to 60. The men outnumbered the women by 89 to 52.
According to the research conducted in Gurugram showed that 593 of the Covid-infected patients who died were already suffering from other serious health issues. Among them, 82 had pre-diabetes, 22 had cancer, and 33 had heart disease. Fifty patients were already suffering from hypertension, 14 from renal issues, and six from liver illness. Twenty-six of the dead patients had pre-existing lung disease, and seven had mental illnesses.
According to the research, 337 of the deceased had numerous co-morbidities, and 16 of the infected patients who died had minor illnesses other than Covid-19. There were only 317 persons among the fatalities who had only Covid-19 and no other severe illness.
Is There Scientific Evidence Why Men Might Be At A Higher Risk?
As per a recent study published in the European Heart Journal showed that men have greater blood levels of angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) than women. The presence of ACE2 allows the COVID-19 virus to infect the healthy cells, which may explain why males are more susceptible to COVID-19 than women. However, more research is needed to be investigated before we come to nay conclusion.
