The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced that the NEET-PG entrance examination will now be held on August 11 in two shifts. This decision comes after the exam was previously postponed.
“In continuation of NBEMS notice dated 22.06.2024, the conduct of NEET-PG 2024 has been rescheduled. The NEET-PG shall now be conducted on 11th August 2024 in two shifts. The cut-off date for the purpose of eligibility to appear in the NEET-PG 2024 shall continue to be 15th August 2024,” the board said in a notification.
The exam was initially delayed on June 22 by the Centre as a “precautionary measure.”
“Taking into consideration the recent incidents of allegations regarding the integrity of certain competitive examinations, the Ministry of Health has decided to undertake a thorough assessment of the robustness of processes of NEET-PG Entrance Examination, conducted by the National Board of Examination for medical students,” the ministry stated.
The ministry emphasized the need to review the examination processes conducted by the NBEMS along with its technical partner, TCS.
The NEET-PG is a national-level entrance exam required for admission to various medical courses, including post-MBBS DNB courses, direct 6-year DrNB courses, and NBEMS diploma courses offered by medical colleges across India.
In addition to the NEET-PG, the Centre also canceled the UGC-NET examination due to concerns about the exam’s integrity. The UGC-NET will now be held in August-September.
The UGC-NET determines eligibility for the Junior Research Fellowship, appointment as assistant professors, and admission to PhD courses.
The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) UGC-NET, which was also postponed amid concerns of exam irregularities, is now scheduled to take place from July 25 to July 27.
The CSIR UGC-NET is an important test for PhD admissions in various scientific fields such as Chemical Sciences, Earth, Atmospheric, Ocean, and Planetary Sciences, Life Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, and Physical Sciences.
This series of postponements and rescheduling reflects the Centre’s commitment to ensuring the integrity and robustness of the examination process for students across the country.
