A 15-hour-old newborn baby in Maharashtra’s Palghar district tested positive for Covid-19, while her mother has tested negative for the infection said a medical officer.
He said, the woman belongs from Darsheth village and gave birth to child at a private nursing home in Palghar town on Sunday. Following the delivery both the mother and the child were tested and the baby’s report came out positive for the coronavirus infection, he added.
This was the first case of a newborn infected with Covid-19 in Palghar district, claimed the official.
He said the child was admitted to a government hospital in Jawhar taluka and her condition was reported to be stable.
Till Monday, Palghar district reported a total of 1,09,874 COVID-19 cases and 2,066 deaths due to the disease, according to official figures
Meanwhile, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Tuesday, India recorded a single-day rise of 1,27,510 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest in 51 days, taking the country’s infection tally to 2,81,75,044. India’s active caseload further declined and is below 20 lakhs after 43 days. The active caseload further declined to 18,95,520 as active cases decreased by 1,30,572 in the last 24 hours.
