Nigh Curfew Returns: States impose fresh restrictions as Omicron cases rise; check complete guidelines

In view of the rise in the number of cases of Omicron variant of COVID-19 in several parts of the country, states government have started imposing night curfew. They have also imposed several restrictions as a precautionary measure and have asked people to follow COVID-19 protocols. While Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra have imposed night curfew, Delhi has imposed restrictions on mass gatherings during Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh have imposed a 6-hour night curfew. While the night curfew comes into effect in Madhya Pradesh from tonight, it will be imposed in Uttar Pradesh starting from December 25, that is Christmas.

The night curfew in these states will be in force from 11 pm to 5 am.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that those who tested positive for COVID-19 will be kept in home isolation if there is enough space in the patient’s home. If this will not be the case, he or she will be shifted to the hospital.

The announcement comes as the weekly cases in Bhopal and Indore have increased by three times in December.

The Allahabad High Court has urged the Center and Election Commission to stop political rallies in the election-bound states including Uttar Pradesh.

Officials have asked people coming from other states and abroad to get tested for COVID-19.

Maharashtra, which has reported a sudden surge in the number of Omicron cases, has imposed a 9-hour night curfew.

Under the new restrictions, gatherings of more than five people will not be allowed during the night. However, essential services have been exempted from the night curfew.

The number of people who can attend wedding functions and religious programs has been capped to 100 if the program is being held in an enclosed place. The state government has allowed 250 people to attend such open-air events.

Maharashtra has become the first state to record more than 100 cases of Omicron.
