On Tuesday, the Health Minister of Delhi, Shri Satyendar Jain gave detailed information on the situation of the new variant of the coronavirus, Omicron in Delhi. There are a total 54 Omicron cases in Delhi out of which 34 are hospitalized in LJNP and 17 have been discharged after recovery. There are a total of 4 Genome Sequencing Labs in Delhi which are capable of testing Omicron cases. Two labs are from the central government and two are from the Delhi government. Both the labs of Delhi government have the capacity to do genome sequencing of more than 100 samples per day. According to the instructions of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, genome sequencing of all positive samples of coronavirus is being done in Delhi.
He further added that there is no need to panic, only caution is needed. The Omicron is a variant of the coronavirus itself and the protocol for its treatment and prevention remains the same as before i.e. wear a mask and follow proper social distancing.
The Health Minister urged the people to follow the rules made to stop the spread of Coronavirus. He urged people to wear masks and follow social distancing for safety in public places. Apart from this, he appealed to the people to get fully vaccinated. Furthermore, the Delhi government is in constant touch with the central government regarding the availability of Booster doses.
