Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday chaired a high-level meeting to review the preparedness to deal with extreme heat conditions across the country in the coming days. The meeting comes after the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted extreme heat conditions in the country during the forthcoming summer season this time.
According to officials, the Prime Minister was briefed about the forecast of the monsoon and how it can impact Rabi crops. He was also informed about the preparedness of medical infrastructure. Officials said that MP Modi was acquainted with the preparation for disasters related to hot summers and other mitigation measures.

Considering the warning issued by the IMD, the Prime Minister has asked the Food Corporation of India (FCI) to ensure optimal storage of grains in extreme weather conditions.
Prepare separate awareness material
The PM has asked for the preparation of separate awareness material for different stakeholders that would help in preparing for the summer season ahead. He also instructed that protocols and dos and don’ts for hot weather must be made accessible in simple formats.
Also, the Prime Minister has instructed the officials of the IMD to prepare daily weather forecasts in a manner which is easy to interpret and disseminate.
He also reviewed all the efforts being taken to monitor irrigation water supply, fodder and drinking water in the meeting.
The Prime Minister was not only briefed about the preparedness of states and hospital infrastructure but was also updated on various efforts that are underway across the nation to prepare for disasters related to heat and mitigation measures in place.
The Prime Minister also stressed that mock fire drills in all hospitals must be done by firefighters and detailed audits of all hospitals should be conducted.
