After testing positive 31 times in the last five months, a 35-year-old woman in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur has been posing a unique challenge to all medical theories on Covid-19.
Her case defied the novel incubation period of Coronavirus, which is believed to end in 14 days, officials said.
All her tests, including 17 RT-PCR and 14 rapid antigen tests, were positive, the officials of the ashram where she was staying said.
Her first test was conducted on September 4 and the last one on January 7.
She has left medical practitioners puzzled each time she tested corona positively.
Since August last year, the patient, Sarada Devi, has been staying in Bharatpur’s Apna Ashram. Being a new ashram entrant, she was screened for Covid according to the ashram’s standard protocol where she came out positive.
“Since then, she has remained in isolation and all three forms of care, namely allopathic, homoeopathic and ayurvedic, have been provided. Despite all treatments, however, her report is positive each time.
“Surprisingly, despite having positive Covid report, she is healthy and has gained around 7-8 kilo,” said Dr B.M. Bhardwaj from Ashram, adding that when she came here she was too frail and fragile and couldn’t even stand on her own.
“Although her present condition satisfies us as she is healthy, however, her Covid-19 status is at another level, and we are worried.”
“We have called Bharatpur Health officials and Sawai Man Singh Hospital, Jaipur, health officials too to take up her case and explain her reports,” he added.
When she was brought in, Ashram officials said she has told her mental and physical health was not too good. She has been remaining here since then, however, following all medical protocols.
“She is still staying in isolation in the ashram as we need to care for other people staying in an ashram,” an official said.
Bhardwaj said the doctors who visited here were of the opinion that Sharda Devi’s low immunity might be the reason why her tests are consistently positive.
CMHO Bharatpur, Kaptan Singh, told IANS that the patient is now fully safe and does not exhibit any signs of ILI.
“As per the rule, for the last 10 days, those showing no symptoms of COVID-19 should be treated as usual,” he said, adding that sometimes the dead virus houses within the stomach and intestine, which produces a positive result, although the person does not transmit the virus at this time, he said, adding that the patient has low immunity and that must be the explanation for her positive report.”
