The findings of the study that have been released at the annual meeting of SLEEP 2023 show that adults who maintain a steady and healthy sleep routine with a consistent bedtime and wake time and have a sufficient sleep every night are at a lower risk of death. Health experts involved in the study have found that people who have a regular sleep pattern and sleep sufficiently are at a 39 per cent lower risk of death as compared to adults who do not sleep enough and have irregular and unhealthy sleep routines. The findings of the study have been adjusted for factors such as lifestyle, major sleep issues, demographics, and health status.
The lead author of the study, Joon Chung has said that the findings have shown that people who sleep regularly tend to outlast in survival tangibly people who do not have healthy and regular sleep patterns irrespective of major sleep issues. The lead author has a Ph.D. in sociology and a post-doctoral research fellow from Harvard Medical School and in the sleep and circadian issues unit at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
The findings of the study have highlighted the benefits of increasing public awareness of receiving a good night’s sleep and widening this goal further.
