New Delhi, November 28- Global Spiritual Leader and Founder, ‘Art of Living’, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar & Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Anil Baijal inaugurated Swachh Composting Plant in association with NDMC yesterday in Delhi.
The event was a joint initiative by Art of Living and North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) for Clean and Green Delhi. The organizers of the programme stated that the occassion was to mark the first of its kind plant to produce 100 percent organic compost going operational.
The plant is expected to dispose of 1000 kg waste every day and produce 300 kg of organic compost without using any chemical treatment. Swachh Composting Plant has been set up in NDMC Nursery Raja Bazaar, Sector-4, Gole Market New Delhi.
On the launch of Swacch Composting Plant Global Spiritual Leader & Founder Art of Living, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji said “It’s the time to turn waste into Gold wherein we get an opportunity to change the stinking environment to fragrant gardens.
It doesn’t take months and years to decompose the organic waste. Swachh Composition Plant instantly converts the waste into manure. Segregation of waste should be done at every home. We need to educate that how every individual should participate and separate the organic and inorganic waste. If we will work in synergy, we will do wonders.”
The plant has been set up at a time when Delhi desperately needs a holistic mechanism and political will to fight the menace of unmanaged dump of waste and the pollution it causes.
Earlier, speaking at a pollution awareness event organised by Healthwire on November 18, Ajay Jha, Director, Public Advocacy Initiatives for Rights and Vallues in India (PAIRVI) had categorically pointed out, “Every day Delhi dumps 10,000 tonnes of waste openly at Okhla, Ghazipur and Bhalswa. Bhalswa had recently caught fire also due to unmanaged waste. Such fires at hill-sized waste dumps release harmful dioxins which are 30-40% more polluted than acceptable norms of emissions.”
