USAID and Villgro Unite for Reproductive Health Progress in India
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in collaboration with Villgro, a prominent Indian social enterprise incubator, has introduced the Yash Entrepreneurs Program. This initiative aims to drive innovative solutions that revolutionize family planning and reproductive health (FP/RH) outcomes for young individuals. The launch, conducted in partnership with the Office of the Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India, marks a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility.
Pioneering Transformative Change: Yash Entrepreneurs Program
The Yash Entrepreneurs Program is dedicated to supporting and empowering 20 enterprises across India over a 36-month period. This support will enable these enterprises to invest in groundbreaking solutions that reshape the landscape of FP/RH services. The program’s overarching goal is to foster an entrepreneurial ecosystem that leverages partnerships with key stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, thereby propelling the expansion of innovative FP/RH solutions.
Empowerment Through Funding and Expertise
Chosen enterprises will benefit from funding of up to INR 10 Lakhs (approximately US $13,200) and invaluable technical assistance, mentoring, and incubation support provided by Villgro. This comprehensive support encompasses various aspects such as product design, prototyping, digital marketing, financial management, legal compliance, and leadership development. Furthermore, select promising startups will receive intensified acceleration support, accompanied by additional funding of up to INR 1 Crore (approximately US $1,32,000), based on criteria like technological potential and projected cash flow.
A Call for Inclusive Innovation and Impact
The Yash Entrepreneurs Program invites enterprises across India that possess a “minimum viable prototype” and show initial market traction to apply. The program actively encourages women entrepreneurs and businesses offering gender-inclusive products and services to participate. Applications will be accepted until May 15, 2022, fostering an environment of inclusivity and innovation in the FP/RH sector.
