In the last two years, over 47 million out-patient department (OPD) registrations have been made through the National Health Authority’s (NHA) ‘Scan and Share’ service. This system allows patients to quickly register for OPD services by scanning a QR code and sharing their Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) number. It helps reduce waiting times by eliminating long queues at registration counters.
Uttar Pradesh Leads with 12.4 Million Tokens
Uttar Pradesh has generated 12.4 million OPD tokens, making it the top-performing state. Andhra Pradesh follows in second place with 8.1 million tokens, while Bihar comes third with 5.7 million.
Mixed Results Across States
Not all states have adopted the system as effectively. For example, big southern states like Tamil Nadu and Kerala show very low digital OPD registrations. Tamil Nadu has recorded only 949 OPD tokens so far, placing it at the bottom of the list. Kerala has generated just 7,983 tokens, while states like Goa and Himachal Pradesh also show low numbers.
Top Hospitals and Facilities
Among healthcare facilities, Uttar Pradesh accounts for 15 of the top 25 hospitals with the most digital OPD registrations. AIIMS New Delhi has issued over two million OPD tokens, making it the highest contributor to the digital system.
Expanding the Service
The ‘Scan and Share’ service is available at 11,700 healthcare facilities across 591 districts in 35 states and union territories. It is expected to expand further, with plans to use it for pharmacy and lab services in hospitals.
