The COVID-19 vaccination drive in India was halted after multiple states had reported bugs in the Co-WIN app. Data lag reports, incorrect communication, or even complete system failure were registered.
Many states have now delayed their vaccination campaign. Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh have dropped the rule requiring the mandatory use of the Co-WIN mobile app to schedule vaccination and record recipient data.
Vaccination Drive On Halt Due To CoWIN Glitch
On January 16, Saturday, on the first day over 1 lakh of health care and frontline staff were vaccinated, the COVID-19 vaccination campaign began in India. 381,305 individuals have been given the coronavirus dose so far.
C0-WIN was designed as a digital nerve centre for the Covid-19 vaccination program in India. However, due to glitches, Co-WIN has not been able to inject integration efficiency into a major nationwide exercise for the second consecutive day.
This app tracks the delivery of the vaccine around the nation to regularize this vaccination drive core by launching an app called Co-WIN (COVID Vaccine Intelligence Network).
As per sources, the CoWIN app, which is used to register and identify recipients, has disrupted vaccination in a number of states due to a glitch. There are problems such as slow data loading, forwarding pre-vaccination intimation to applicants, and many more.
As noted, the government is working on fixing the problems with the CoWIN app, as some of the states where the app is still not working properly-
Maharashtra
In Maharashtra, the vaccination drive was stopped for two days due to a glitch in the CoWIN app. The software resumed on Tuesday after the bugs had been repaired.
Punjab
In Punjab sources, health workers have been apprehensive of the side-effects, as a result of which most of them have decided to miss vaccination today and wait for the second process. However, the technical glitch in the CoWin portal was blamed by health officials for the poor response. Due to the bug, messages could not be sent to the recipients in time and they had to be told by phone about the vaccination, they stated.
Odisha
In Odisha, the state government also stopped vaccination for a day because of the same reason.
Haryana
Health department officials in Gurgaon said the app was not functioning properly right from the start. Co-WIN, which automates the process of sending pre-vaccination intimations to subscribers, has not been able to submit advance texts to several registered users. Many of those who got their shots on Saturday received “prior intimation” of their appointments via SMS the next day.
Earlier, PM Modi said on Monday that the Co-WIN app will ensure that individuals receive the second vaccine dosage on time. After the first dosage, the app generates a certificate, and the final certificate is issued after the second dosage. He further added that the beneficiaries will be identified with the help of Aadhaar and a timely second dosage will be ensured.
