Veteran Singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam Dies Battling COVID-19

Renowned singer and celebrity S.P. Balasubrahmanyam, 74, passed away after battling Coronavirus and related complications for over a month. The veteran singer was profoundly remembered for his beautiful voice in many superhit Bollywood films.

He tested positive for Coronavirus in August. He turned negative in September, but he continued to stay in the hospital as his condition had been deteriorating with time. 

The 74- year-old singer could not be taken off the ventilator support due to the serious condition of his lungs, according to a statement issued by his son, S P Charan.

The unfortunate death of the singer added one more loss of life due to novel coronavirus, along with at least 9,82,000 loss of lives worldwide.

The singer suffered from co-morbidities which led to a sudden deterioration in his health following which he was admitted to the intensive care unit.

He was admitted to the hospital after he complained of mild symptoms and respiratory issues, including chest discomfort and low-grade fever. SPB is survived by his wife, a son, and a daughter

COVID-19 infection can be the most dangerous for those belonging to the high-risk category (pre-existing health conditions) and senior citizens.

“In a further setback this morning, despite maximal life support measures and the best efforts of the clinical team, his condition deteriorated further and he suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest. With profound grief, we regret to inform you that he has passed away on September 25 at 13:04 Hours. We express our heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, well-wishers, and admirers at their loss during this time of anguish and sorrow,” the hospital said in a statement.

Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan posted a tweet as soon as the new broke out and paid his tribute to the legendary singer, saying, “I join the nation in grieving the demise of singing maestro Padma Bhushan, #SPBalasubrahmanyam ji. He remains immortalised in our memory through his musical compositions. My condolences to his family and followers.”

The music legend Balasubrahmanyam gave his voice to thousands of songs ranging from romantic hits to popular dance tracks, in both the Bollywood and South Indian films.

The social media  poured in with tributes for SPB from several celebrities and his fans. 

 

His voice became famous after his breakthrough Bollywood film that came in 1981 when he sang for Ek Duuje Ke Liye, a romantic tragedy that was one of the year’s biggest hits.
