Heat Wave Health Tips: India reported the warmest February this year since 1877. Mercury has started to sour at several places and the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned for above-normal temperatures this summer. People have been advised to brace for the warmer season this time. Considering the substantial deviation from expected normal temperatures, the Centre has written to the state government to start daily surveillance on heat-related illness starting today i.e. March 1.

Health secretary Rajesh Bhushan has asked officials to provide all the necessary information to every district for effective preparedness of the health department and health facilities. Bhushan said that the daily surveillance under National Programme on Climate Change and Human Health (NPCCHH) will be conducted in all states.

Meanwhile, the Union Health Ministry has prepared a list of ‘dos and don’ts’ for protection against the expected heat wave. The list has been issued as the IMD has issued its first heat warning for this year.
