World Asthma Day is observed every year on the first Tuesday of May to raise awareness about Asthma. This pandemic has brought suffering to people all across the world as many of them with asthma are affected severely during Covid-19.
A recent study revealed that a 65 percent reduction in serious asthma cases that required hospitalization was seen due to the widespread use of face masks outdoors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Researchers from Israel’s Sheba Medical Centre were quoted as saying by Times of Israel, face masks also helped decrease the spread of viruses such as the flu in the past year.
The face-coverings prevent pollen from flowers, trees, and grass from coming into contact with the nose and mouth. Hence, by wearing face masks it is seen that people are likely to suffer less from seasonal allergies.
The nationwide mandate on mask-wearing outdoors was recently lifted in Israel. However, the report said, masks must still be worn in public spaces indoors, and the Health Ministry also recommended they continue to be worn outdoors in large gatherings.
It was also reported that, wearing masks during the pandemic reduced cases of flu this year, and also reportedly affected the first-quarter profit of Swiss drugmakers Novartis and Roche.
