CII Yi Organizes Plastic Waste Clean-up Drives & Poster Competitions on World Environment Day

In a concerted effort to combat the escalating problem of plastic pollution and promote environmental consciousness, CII Yi and UCOST collaborated to organize Plastic Waste Clean-up Drives and Poster Competitions on the occasion of World Environment Day. These initiatives aimed to raise awareness about the critical need for conserving our ecology, particularly among the younger generation.

Plastic pollution poses a significant threat to our environment and human health. With plastic waste accumulating in landfills and rivers, immediate attention is required. Uttarakhand, a state known for its natural beauty, has been significantly impacted by plastic waste, adversely affecting its ecology, wildlife, and the well-being of its inhabitants. Given its ecological sensitivity, the issue of plastic waste is expected to worsen in the future, necessitating prompt action.

The annual Environment Summit, now in its 13th edition, organized by CII and UCOST, serves as a platform to deliberate on topical environmental issues. Leading up to this year’s summit, Plastic Waste Collection Drives and Poster Competitions were conducted from June 1 to 7, coinciding with World Environment Day. The forthcoming summit, scheduled for June 21, 2023, will focus on identifying solutions to combat plastic pollution.

Mr. Bipen Gupta, Chairman of CII, emphasized that organizing environmental activities such as plastic waste clean-up drives and poster competitions aimed to instill awareness about the importance of preserving our ecology among youth and children.

Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) and Uttarakhand Council for Science & Technology (UCOST) join forces to combat plastic pollution and promote environmental awareness.

To kickstart the efforts, a plastic waste collection drive was held at Kimaadi & Rispana in collaboration with Graphic Era University and Waste Warriors. Over 70 enthusiastic volunteers from Graphic Era University and CIMS University actively participated in the clean-up drive. Together, they collected approximately 75 kg of plastic waste, which was then transported to the Waste Warriors Material Recovery Facility at Harrawala. Ms. Saadika Munjal, Co-Chair of Yi Climate Change Vertical, also participated in the clean-up drive with great enthusiasm, setting a remarkable example.

Furthermore, Poster Making Competitions were organized at Magnum Opus and Kidzee Racecourse schools to raise awareness among children. Around 40 students, aged 5 to 10, actively participated and created inspiring posters on environmental conservation. Mr. Anayas Suneja, Co-Chair of Yi Masoom Vertical, commended CII for encouraging and promoting the engagement of young children through this activity, nurturing their commitment to safeguarding the environment.

Plastic pollution remains a pressing concern that demands immediate action. The Plastic Waste Clean-up Drives and Poster Competitions organized by CII Yi and UCOST on World Environment Day serve as crucial steps towards mitigating the environmental health perspectives and fostering a sustainable future. By involving young minds and creating awareness at an early age, we pave the way for a more environmentally conscious society.
