Menstrual Health Summit 2022 Sheds Light on Holistic Approach to Menstrual Well-Being
Recognizing the Link Between Menstruation and Overall Health
In a groundbreaking effort to shift the narrative around menstrual health, BleedEqual, in collaboration with PCOS Club, organized the first-ever Menstrual Health Summit in 2022. The summit brought together experts from diverse backgrounds who emphasized the need to consider menstruation as a crucial aspect of overall well-being. Dr. Nalini Kaushik, Founder of BleedEqual, stressed the importance of understanding menstruation’s impact on an individual’s general health, advocating for a holistic approach to menstrual health. The link between menstruation and health issues like anemia and gynecological conditions has been overlooked for far too long, highlighting the urgency to view menstrual health as a vital indicator of one’s overall health.
Empowering Menstruators with the Right to Choose
The second session of the Menstrual Health Summit, moderated by Dr. Prerna Kumar, explored the concept of a “Menstruator’s Basket of Choice” and emphasized the importance of an individual’s right to choose menstrual products that suit their unique needs and experiences. Mr. Kartik Johari, Vice President of Nobel Hygiene Pvt Ltd., emphasized the significance of providing a diverse range of products to cater to various life phases, including heavy bleeding, menopause, and conditions like PCOS. Recognizing and normalizing menstruation is crucial in ensuring that everyone’s health requirements are met comfortably and adequately throughout their life.
Understanding Hormonal Manifestations and Breaking Stigmas
The third session, chaired by Ms. Nidhi Singh, Founder of PCOS Club India, delved into understanding hormonal health and its impact on a healthy menstrual cycle. The focus shifted to the hormonal disorder of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) and its effects on menstruating and menopausal individuals. The discussion shed light on the prevalence of PCOS as a widely spread but less talked-about disorder, often hindered by associated stigmas. Empowering individuals with accurate information and a holistic approach is vital in breaking down barriers and encouraging early care-seeking for hormonal disorders like PCOS.
