Two-week-long initiative encourages community members to unite in the act of giving blood

Gurugram, India – In celebration of World Blood Donor Day, DLF Foundation, in collaboration with Rotary Blood Centre Gurugram, organized a highly successful two-week-long blood donation drive. The drive aimed to inspire young professionals and community members in Gurugram to participate in this worthy cause and promote the theme of solidarity through voluntary unpaid blood donation. With the slogan “GBSL – Give blood. Share life,” the initiative sought to highlight the values of altruism, respect, empathy, and kindness.

Taking place from June 16th to June 29th, 2022, the blood donation drive spanned across various DLF Clubs in Gurugram. Each venue was equipped with medical assistance, beds, and doctors to ensure the safety and well-being of participants during and after the donation process. The initiative garnered extensive participation from 227 individuals residing in different parts of the city. Through their collective efforts, a total of 227 units of blood were collected, making a significant contribution to meet the ongoing demand for safe blood.

Under the leadership of Gayatri Paul, CEO of DLF Foundation, the initiative received high praise. Paul stated, “Blood Donation costs nothing, but it can mean the world to someone in need. We urge our community to come out, donate blood, and save lives.” Recognizing the concerns surrounding blood donation in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, Paul emphasized that individuals who have tested positive for Covid-19 should wait until they have been symptom-free for at least 14 days before donating blood.

The global need for blood is significant, with nearly 120 million units donated each year. However, this quantity falls short of meeting the demand, leaving many patients without timely access to safe blood. Regular blood donations are crucial to ensure a consistent supply for those in need. Although donation rates vary across the world, with some high-income countries seeing up to seven times more donations than low-income countries, initiatives like the one organized by DLF Foundation and Rotary Blood Centre Gurugram help bridge this gap.

Girish Sehgal, Senior Vice-President of Super-Luxury Operations at DLF, expressed his gratitude for the active participation of DLF employees and members, stating, “Blood donation is the most precious gift that a person can give – the gift of life.” He acknowledged the acute shortage faced by blood banks and encouraged others to join this life-saving cause.

DLF Foundation, established in 2008 as the philanthropic arm of the DLF Group, remains committed to transforming communities through impactful interventions in education, healthcare, and social sustainability. By fostering a better quality of life and sustainable ecosystems, the foundation aims to positively impact all stakeholders within the immediate and extended communities.
