Government Allocates Funds for Enhanced Dengue Prevention Measures

The meeting, held in New Delhi, was prompted by the rising number of Dengue cases reported across the country. Dr. Mandaviya, acknowledging the gravity of the situation, stressed the utmost importance of being prepared to combat the Dengue virus effectively. He directed officials to be fully prepared, strengthen prevention measures, and enhance containment and management strategies for Dengue.

One of the key points emphasized by Dr. Mandaviya was the support extended by the Union Government to the states. The central government has provided essential resources, including screening kits and financial support for fogging and Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) activities. Moreover, healthcare workers have received specialized training to handle Dengue cases. Dr. Mandaviya urged all states to closely adhere to the guidelines issued by the Centre for the prevention and containment of Dengue.

Key Focus on Disease Surveillance and Vector Control

Furthermore, the Union Health Minister highlighted the allocation of funds by the Central Government to the states under the Program Implementation Plan (PIP). These funds are earmarked for various critical activities to prevent and control Dengue. These activities include disease and entomological surveillance, effective case management to avert fatalities, procurement of diagnostic test kits for early detection, vector control and management, and the procurement of necessary insecticides. Additionally, capacity building, behavior change communication, inter-sectoral coordination, monitoring, and supervision are part of the comprehensive strategy against Dengue.

The meeting was attended by several key officials and public health experts, including Smt. L S Changsan, AS & MD (NHM), Health Ministry; Smt. Aradhana Patnaik, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry; and Dr. Manashvi Kumar, Joint Secretary, Health Ministry. Their presence underscored the significance of this effort to combat the Dengue crisis.

Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya’s review meeting signifies a robust and coordinated approach by the Central Government to tackle the rising Dengue cases in India. The allocation of resources, guidelines, and training is expected to strengthen the preparedness of the public health system to effectively prevent, contain, and manage Dengue. This comprehensive strategy reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding the health and well-being of the Indian population in the face of this health challenge.
