The coronavirus-imposed lockdown forced people to stay indoors in order to maintain social distancing. The government has now given several relaxations but fear of getting infected with deadly COVID-19 has forced many to stay indoors. While some would think of it as a restriction, others see it as a great opportunity to shed extra kilos. With all the restaurants and eateries being temporarily shut, the chances of eating junk food or ordering food online are null; meaning, this is the right opportunity to cook some healthy food that can help you lose some extra kilos. According to Dr Anuj Choudhary, fitness expert and founder of Animal Booster Nutrition, weight loss can happen even with simple foods that are available in your kitchen.

“For a while, we seem to forget that all our everyday foods, such as dal, chapatti, raita, are not only Indian but also some of the healthiest foods you can have,” said Dr Anuj Choudhary.

People generally believe nutritious food can’t be savory. Busting the myth, nutritious food can also be tasty. While cooking healthy food at home it should be kept in mind that there should be minimal use of butter, ghee, oil, cream and cheese.

“A healthy diet should include daily intakes of antioxidants, protein, iron, sugar, calcium, vitamin-D, carbohydrates and many other vital nutrients. Diet should include more of dry fruits, green leafy vegetables, fish, lentils, fruits, dairy products, and poultry products-all broken into smaller meals and should be eaten in intervals throughout the day. Also, it is very important to cut down on the portion of the meals,” said the fitness expert.

“Vegetarians can replace non-vegetarian nutrient sources with food products like soy, mushrooms, tofu, cottage cheese, etc. Some Indian dishes which are nutritious and easy to cook are Ragi Dosa, Muesli, Chana Dal, Grilled corn and capsicums, Oats Idli, Sabudana Khichri, Poha, Sprout salads, Kachumbar salad, scrambled eggs, grilled chicken sandwich, Chicken Quinoa biryani, Chicken salad, etc,” he added.

You don’t have to ditch your regular food habits or make massive changes in your diet, or to starve yourself, you just need the best-balanced diet plan to lose weight.
