Amidst the rising cases of coronavirus in the country, every day people are coming up with new health challenges and those challenges are raising questions related to Covid-19 and other health issues.
Since the coronavirus came the pregnancy and safe motherhood has been a challenge and many mothers or to-be mothers and have been asking questions about the safety of them and their child. Some studies are still going on for pregnancy and covid but some of the research suggests that pregnant women are not vulnerable to be infected or their child yet to be born will have no effect if the mother is having the infection.
In some studies, there were no signs of the Covid-19 virus in the breast milk of the mother but it is suggested to isolate the mother if she is having the infection and the baby can have the breast milk by using a pump and skin contact should be avoided.
While thinking about all the other health challenges it is important to focus on safe pregnancy and safe motherhood too.
“Safe motherhood means that the outcome of the mother and child has to be optimized. Depending on the individual circumstances for the mother, we have to provide facilities that are required to make sure that the pregnancy is as healthy as it can be and the outcome of the child should be the same” said Dr. Radha S Rao, MBBS, MS, MRCOG, Sr. Consultant Obstetrician and Gynecology, Apollo Cradle & Children’s Hospital.
While talking about the Covid effects on pregnancy and a child Dr. Radha said “So far there has not been an adverse effect of the covid-19 virus in any of the trimesters and it has not been proven yet that the virus will affect the baby in the womb”
