What is egg freezing and what we need to know about it?

Dr. Nandita says, “Egg freezing, as technology has evolved now. It has become really excellent today.  As women’s day is around the corner, we must talk about this more to raise awareness on egg freezing. It’s a technology which gives freedom to women. It is a technology that evolved. Now, a woman getting treatment for cancer can freeze her eggs. Women who are diagnosed with cancer, have to take drugs that damage their ovaries and their reproductive capacity. But today there is life after cancer. Egg freezing is a great idea for such women.”

What are the benefits of freezing the eggs earlier?

Besides social freezing, there are other medical conditions like endometriosis, which is a condition that can affect your fertility and make you infertile and this especially affects younger girls. There are different surgeries or treatments for it which can damage your ovary. So I tell my patients to freeze their eggs. In some cases, one ovary has to be removed. In such cases, egg freezing is a great idea,” said Dr. Palshetkar.

What are the chances of having a baby if a woman freeze her eggs in her late 30s?

Dr. Palshetkar says, “In the late 30s you can also conceive naturally which I always suggest to my clients as it is always better to conceive naturally and keep egg freezing for a backup. So it has a 40- 50% chance of success rate that depends on how closer you are to your 40s.”
