Doctors were on strike in the month of December against the delay in NEET PG Counselling.

Residents Doctors of the central government-run Lady Hardinge Medical College (LHMC) and the two associated hospitals have written to Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya seeking his immediate intervention after their salaries were deducted for the period when they were on strike in the month of December against the delay in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Postgraduate) or NEET PG Counselling. They had called off the strike on the assurance of the health minister.

The health minister had promised that the date of counseling would be announced soon and no action would be taken against the protesting doctors.

“Residents Doctors from all over India protested in the month of December, 2021 against delay in National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Postgraduate) or NEET PG Counselling, and it was assured before calling off our protest that no punitive action will be taken against anyone. We the residents of Lady Hardinge Medical College & Associated Hospitals (LHMC) would like to draw your kind attention to our concern of deduction of salary and leaves adjusted during the month of December 2021. The strike was called off after verbal assurances given by our honorable Union Health Minister that no punitive action will be taken, no salary deduction and no absence will be marked during this period of the strike. It has come to our notice despite these assurances the attendance of Resident Doctors has been marked as leave for the duration of participation,” they said in a letter to the minister.

According to doctors, action against them has been taken despite the fact that no other central government hospitals have taken such a step.

“This harsh action has been taken by LHMC administration and there is no such action in other central government hospitals. We the Resident of LHMC and associated hospitals request you to kindly look into the matter urgently and required intervention to be implemented immediately so that resident doctors who have suffered already very much during the COVID period will get justice,” the letter reads.
